Schwules Museum Berlin – Gay Museum Berlin Schöneberg
Schwules Museum Berlin! With its highly regarded exhibitions, archival holdings, numerous contributions to research and more than thirty-five staff, the Schwules Museum* has, since its founding in 1985, grown into one of the world’s largest and most significant institutions for archiving, researching and communicating the history and culture of LGBTIQ communities. Changing exhibitions and events take diverse approaches to lesbian, gay, trans*, bisexual and queer biographies, themes and concepts in history, art and culture.
After six months of construction work on a former printing house at Lützowstraße 73, the Schwules Museum* has gotten a 1,600 m2 make-over. On the ground floor is space for diffrent exhibition. There is also a café which can also be used for events. A non-lending library equipped with research spaces for visitors of all genders finds its home along with office spaces and a workshop in the upper floor.
The Museum’s singular archival holdings have moved into the climate-controlled basement storage areas. In addition to a physical expansion, the move also means a thematic expansion for the museum: The Schwules Museum* will intensify its function as a center of information on the diversity of sexual identities and concepts of gender.
The Museum Shop is located in the checkout area of Schwules Museum*. It is accessible to the regular opening times and can be visited without purchasing a ticket. It’s possible to pay with debit or credit cards. Available are books, posters and postcards, products with our brand “Schwules Museum*” such as key chains, card holders and pencils.
